Custom Pergola Built to Suit Tricky Angles in Tikipunga
When other companies say no, we say “let’s figure it out.” That’s exactly what happened with this custom glazed roof pergola in Tikipunga, Whangārei.
The clients had a beautiful home with a deck that just didn’t get enough use—partly due to Northland’s ever-changing weather, and partly because the angle of the house made most standard pergola solutions unworkable. That’s where our team stepped in.
The challenge? Two walls at unusual angles and a tight corner to work with. Our in-house design and engineering team created a completely custom solution to work around the angles, ensuring every rafter and beam sat exactly where it needed to. Instead of pitching the roof away from the house like you normally would, we reverse-pitched it so rainwater flowed back into the existing guttering system—keeping it tidy, compliant, and effective.
We reinforced the existing deck to handle the new load and installed custom soffit brackets to carry the back beam. At the front, we used a higher front edge for a clean, open view from the deck—no chunky beams cutting across your eyeline. The frame was powder-coated in Iron Sand, and the roof panels were grey-tinted to keep it cool while still letting in natural light.
The result is a completely weatherproof pergola that ticks every box. In the middle of a hot Whangārei summer it’ll stay shady and cool, and in the middle of a downpour, it’s a dry, inviting space to relax or entertain. Our installers reckon this was one of their favourites—getting such a tidy finish on a tricky angle made it all worth it.
