A Story You Can Get Behind
Shadeland’s story began in the Bay of Islands, sparked by a simple idea that emerged on a fishing trip. Founders Graeme Peter and Daniel Taitoko set out to build a business grounded in New Zealand-made quality, strong craftsmanship, and a genuine commitment to the local community.
That vision became reality in 2020 with the launch of Canvasland Te Tai Tokerau.
In 2022, we rebranded to Shadeland, expanding our product range to deliver premium shade and shelter solutions designed specifically for Northland’s coastal conditions. In 2023, the business continued to grow with the acquisition of Keri Canvas and Shades, a trusted Kerikeri company with over 20 years of service, now operating as Shadeland Kerikeri.
In 2025, Graeme Peter purchased the remaining shareholding of Shadeland and is proud to be a 100% local owner and operator, continuing to grow a business that is deeply connected to Northland and its people.
From a one-person operation in a borrowed van to one of Northland’s leading shade and shelter specialists, Shadeland’s growth reflects an unwavering focus on quality, reliability, and community. With two experienced teams of installers and sales managers across our Whangārei and Kerikeri branches, we deliver trusted local service throughout Northland.
