Coastal Protection with Clear Ziptrak Blinds in Waipu

This stunning coastal property on the Waipu coast came with one big challenge – exposure. While the sweeping ocean views were incredible, the strong winds and driving rain made the outdoor living space hard to enjoy year-round.

The owners wanted a solution that could handle Northland’s coastal weather while still keeping the view front and centre. Shadeland installed five large clear Ziptrak blinds, each measuring 3100mm high by 2800mm wide, to create a fully sheltered and flexible outdoor space.

One of the trickier aspects of the job was the textured plastered pillars between each opening. These surfaces made mounting difficult, but with some creative fixing methods our team was able to secure the tracks neatly and effectively without compromising the finish.

The clear outdoor blinds now provide complete weather protection – blocking wind and rain, adding thermal retention on cooler days, and ensuring full waterproofness. At the same time, the blinds are virtually invisible, maintaining the panoramic coastal outlook.

The result is a seamless indoor-outdoor flow that can be enjoyed in any season, proving that with the right solution, you can have both weather protection and uninterrupted views.
