Upgrading Outdated Outdoor Blinds to a Modern Shadetrack Pro System in Pakaraka
When we first visited this Pakaraka property, it was clear the outdoor area had great potential—but the existing blinds were holding it back.
The home had an older-style system with zip and hand-roll blinds in clear PVC. These were installed before modern systems like Ziptrak and Shadetrack Pro became available. Over time, the zips had worn out, making most of the blinds difficult—or even impossible—to open and close.
At the same time, the homeowners were in the middle of a full renovation, including a new roof, upgraded decking, and new balustrades. It made perfect sense to bring the outdoor blinds up to the same standard.
Finding the Right Solution
We initially priced a Ziptrak system, but it came in over budget for the client. After discussing options, we recommended Shadetrack Pro—a reliable, smooth-operating system that delivered the functionality they needed at a more accessible price point.
This approach allowed us to upgrade the entire outdoor area without compromise.
A Tailored Blind Layout for How the Space Is Used
In total, we installed 18 Shadetrack Pro blinds across the outdoor area, with a thoughtful mix of materials to suit different zones.
For the outdoor lounge corner, where the homeowners relax and watch TV, we used mesh blinds. This was a key detail—reducing sun glare while still allowing airflow and visibility, making the space far more comfortable during the day.
For the remaining areas, we installed clear PVC blinds. These let plenty of natural light through—perfect for the homeowner’s plants—while also providing protection from wind and rain.
Most blinds were sized between 1.5–2.0 metres wide and around 1.5 metres high, with two larger doorway openings measuring approximately 2.5 by 2.5 metres.
A Big Improvement in Everyday Use
One of the biggest changes for the homeowners is simply how easy the new system is to operate. Where the old blinds were stiff and unreliable, the new Shadetrack Pro blinds glide smoothly and can be adjusted with minimal effort.
Combined with the wider renovation, the outdoor area now feels like a true extension of the home—usable in a range of weather conditions and set up to suit both relaxation and entertaining.
There are still a few finishing touches to complete, but already the transformation is clear.
The End Result
This project is a great example of how upgrading outdated outdoor systems can completely change how a space functions.
The homeowners now have a flexible, weather-protected outdoor area that works year-round—whether they’re enjoying a quiet evening, hosting friends, or simply making the most of their renovated home.
