Te Hapua School – Introducing the Shadeland Single Post Shade Sail
A smarter, simpler way to shade
At Shadeland, we’re always looking for new ways to create safer, smarter, and more efficient shade solutions for schools and communities across Te Tai Tokerau. Our brand-new Single Post Shade Sail design is the next evolution in playground shade — delivering up to 49sqm of coverage from a single central post.
Less disruption, more protection
Traditional shade sails rely on four posts to stretch a square or rectangular sail, often creating obstructions within high-traffic areas like playgrounds. Our new single post design eliminates those hazards, providing wide, open play areas while drastically reducing groundworks and installation time. Fewer footings mean less excavation, less cost, and less disruption to students and staff.
Maximising compliance and design potential
With shade sails in New Zealand limited to 49sqm under permit guidelines, our team engineered this system to make the most of every square metre — achieving the same span and coverage as a four-post sail but from just one post. The result is a structure that’s both elegant and practical, perfect for schools, early learning centres, and public spaces where safety and aesthetics matter.
Te Hapua School leads the way
Our first installation of this innovative design was recently completed at Te Hapua School in the Far North of Te Tai Tokerau. The project featured a vibrant Lime Fizz shade sail paired with a hot-dipped galvanised steel post, giving the structure a durable and modern finish that stands up to Northland’s coastal conditions.
Depending on your design preferences, the structure can be finished in galvanised or powder-coated steel, offering flexibility to match your space and style.
Proudly New Zealand made, locally installed
As with all Shadeland projects, our Single Post Shade Sail is designed, fabricated, and installed by our Northland-based team — ensuring every detail meets our high standards of quality and safety.
If your school or organisation is looking for a smarter way to shade open spaces without the clutter of multiple posts, contact the Shadeland team to discuss how this new design could work for you.
