This Dargaville homeowner wanted a practical outdoor shade solution that wouldn’t darken their indoor living space or require resource consent. They reached out to Shadeland for a shade sail that could balance functionality, aesthetic appeal, and compliance.

Challenges tackled:

• The client wanted full coverage for the deck without darkening the house interior.
• The total sail area needed to stay under 50sqm to avoid needing council consent.

The solution:
Shadeland custom-designed and installed a premium Alpine Silver Shadetec 320 shade sail (13-year UV warranty), sized at 8.5m x 5m. Three custom powder-coated roof brackets were mounted directly to the corrugated iron roof—an effective and discreet way to secure sails. These roof brackets connected to the sail with 2m lead wires, allowing the sail to float away from the house.

Why it worked so well:

• The lead wires created visual space and allowed natural light into the home.
• The total sail area remained under 50sqm, avoiding the need for building consent.
• Two galvanised steel posts were installed with stainless steel fittings to anchor the sail tension perfectly.
• The overall design didn’t obstruct the view or dominate the home’s architecture.
