Bay Window Brilliance: White Wanaka Shutters for a Whangārei Villa Renovation
This Whangārei villa renovation called for a stylish yet practical solution to a classic Kiwi feature—the bay window. The clients were after something with real presence, capable of handling tricky angles while lifting the overall look of the room. Shadeland’s white Wanaka Timber Shutters proved the perfect fit.
Crafted from sustainably grown Paulownia wood, the shutters bring both warmth and strength to the space. Their clean, white finish enhances the traditional villa detailing, while their dense timber composition offers impressive insulation—something the homeowner immediately noticed, remarking how much warmer the room feels compared to the old curtains.
This installation featured a custom bay window layout: two side sets and a bi-fold opening middle set. The bi-fold panels give easy access to fresh air and uninterrupted views, while the fixed side panels ensure full coverage for privacy and control. Wanaka shutters are renowned for their superior joinery stability, making them ideal for the large, angled panels needed here.
The tight grain of Paulownia gives these shutters a refined look without the bulk, while also making them lightweight and easy to operate. With a high insulation rating of 4 out of 5 and FSC-certified timber, they’re as practical as they are environmentally conscious.
Altogether, this install is a brilliant example of how expertly designed shutters can work harmoniously with period architecture. These Wanaka shutters don’t just look the part—they genuinely improve the space, making it cosier, quieter, and more functional year-round.
